Social media is one major part of my ongoing MSC Dissertation and therefore I have to keep an eye on the things going around. Two days back something big happened when highly anticipated Google+ came into scene and turned into wild fire. Almost everyone on the online world was talking about it. I believe it might be the only day in the history when such massive number of invitations spread around the globe. Google+ is not available for general public right now therefore one can jump into this ride only if someone receives an invite. I am thankful to Mr. Badar Khushnood, Country Representative of Google in Pakistan, for the invite. It took me sometime to make a profile on it and to have my hands on, because of it being over capacity, that shows the kind of fame it gained in no time.
Google+ looks like facebook and people claim that Google is copying facebook but to all those I have a question that was facebook not a copy of orkut. Anyways, fact remains that facebook had many privacy issues which to some extent been covered by the Google+ with the feature of “Circles”. You can add people in different circles according to their status and you can share certain kind of updates with one or all the circles.
The video below can demonstrate the Google + Circles feature better:
Another interesting feature is “plus1” it is just like the ‘like’ thing we see in facebook. All the plus one you get are gathered in “Brag It” badge in the profile. Moreover, to gain these ‘plus one’ you can share whatever you want just like the things on facebook, from pictures to videos from quotes to blog post links, from music to piece of poetry and best part is that you can share your content with certain people by putting them in certain circle.
Next major feature is “Hangout”. This can be categorised as an audio video conference just like we have on Skype. In other words, Google is trying to beat Skype and facebook with the same bullet. How can we forget Google VS Microsoft thing, and who own Skype now. Anyways, following is the video showing that how fast and awesome this “Hangout” feature is:
“Huddle” is an interesting word and it took me a handsome amount of time to find out what exactly it means. Anyhow, it is the next major feature of Google+. It is the feature that offers you the facility of ‘chat’. Not just chat but chat across the podium, it is like Gtalk and I find it better than the facebook chat that gives me pain most of the times. See the video below for more on huddle:
Google has put feet in highly hard-hitting competition now as it is competing two of the giants at the same time, facebook, and Skype. I have been asked if it is going to beat them or not, I simply had no answer to it as time will decide as Google still have an experience or I should better say bad experience of buzz and wave. Google have to work on security thing for this new social networking site so it never turns into “notworking site”.
Google has a history of gaining the might in every battle it put itself in, so there are chances for it to win this battle too. However, the real win is the long-term approach, as being the hotcake people are approaching to it but they will remain tagged if the things are made easy for them. By the way some new things are expected to be feature on facebook next week no idea what they will be and till the time that cat come out of sack enjoy G+ing:
P.S. if you still have not get an Google+ invite and you need one be my guest
