TEDx reached Cardiff 2nd Time

I have been connected to the TED fever to a new level for last one year almost. All thanks to TEDxLahore and since than i am, somehow, connected the TEDx events that are taking place in Pakistan, and listening to the TED talks. This past Saturday i got chance to be at another TED event, TEDxCardiff. It was for sure the biggest TEDx event in Wales, and for me it was first TED event that i attended outside Pakistan. Talks were interesting, motivating, informative, and yet entertaining. This is a regular feature of TED events but the best thing that i found in this event was the chance of meeting people from different countries, with many ideas to share. I met people from the places such as Turkey, Ireland, France, China, United States of America, Australia, Egypt (Osama a student of UWIC who was organizer of TEDxCairo).

The event took place at Millennium Centre, Cardiff Bay. I must say it is a perfect venue to hold such event when there was a sun out there and a bay full of people having fun in the sun and in the centre of hall is full of people to exchange some ideas.

The curators of TEDxCardiff are Claire Scantlebury and Neil Cocker, and the event started with their opening notes. The event was divided into two sessions. And along with the live talks, there were two talks from the TED archive,  “Hans Rosling and the magic washing machine”, and “Anthony Atala: Printing a human kidney”.

In Session one, Dr. Kelly Page talked about friendship and its importance and shared a very interesting video that was made by one of her student about her friends

Tim Robertson, talked about the art work done by prisoners:

Clive Bates talks about the climate effects and its battle with economy:

Maf Lewis & Rome Viharo talkd about how search engines work and how effective it is:

The Last talk of the session was by  Kevin Chesters, he talked about how his weakness in math created his interest in dinosaurs and that lead to many good and interesting things:

Solarference gave performance to add the E factor to the session, they used their home made software that was the main feature of the performance.

In session-two: Tori James, first Welsh women to climb Mount Everest, talked about what her motivated and how she reached to the top of the world.

Pete Lawrence of Big Chill Festival, talked about the Social Glue, and how he aims to create an association around the brand.

Warren Fauvel was there to give demonstration of his Tee Shirt Guitar and talked about augmented reality.

Mark Chataway talked about vaccination and different views on it:

The last talk of the event was by Alastair Raynolds. During this talk i was in space playing with stars, that used to be my favorite game during my childhood.

There was a networking and dinner session at Wagamams after the event, where I got chance to meet and talk Dr. Kelly, Tori James, Alastair, and Rome.

I reached there as complete stranger for many and all the people there were strangers for me. However, Some one was right in saying that strangers are the friends we never met. As today i have Rome and Jacqueline as my friends who were among the strangers for me :)

P.S : all the videos i shared above are un-official videos of the talks and they were recorded by me. for the complete and good quality videos keep an eye on TEDxCardiff website.
