It will be unjust to say that Ramadan is right in corner because the way time flies now Ramadan will be here in no time. No matter to what extent religious you are, but you somehow do face certain effects of the month. Effects of the month also take over our media outlets and our TV screens, the programs we see are specially coated with its colours. Talking about Ramadan, special TV shows has always been flavour of this month. In past these shows were more inclined towards the cooking shows sharing recipes for the ‘iftar’ meals, live telecast of ‘Tarawih’, and TV shows related to social and charity work, quiz shows about Islamic history, and talks from the scholars to elaborate the benefits of this months and other religious issues. However, that was all during “PTV” era with the bombardment of private TV channels a race of rating begun and it taken over Ramadan transmission too.

Departure of a friend and a legend

November 24th, 2011

Life is indeed unpredictable and complicated than the fiction. Repeatedly this reality bounces to us but this bouncer hits hard when you hear about the death of someone dear to you. Yesterday out of nowhere, the news of Abdul Rauf Khalid’s death came and turned my day into a sad one. My introduction with him took place with his TV drama Laag based on Kashmir. Happy Birthday Lala

The Signature Style of our very own Lala

It was the 9 pm News of PTV on 4th October 1996, a pleasing yet shocking news came that Pakistan has set 372 total  against Sri lanka in a match of Safari Cup. The instant reaction was, “WHAT”, I was looking at my uncle and he was looking at me, and we both were amazed at such performance of team Pakistan against the world champions of that time. The man of that moment was a young guy named Shahid Khan Afridi who became the youngest century maker in the history of One Day Internationals. It was the fastest Century of all times as well. Today same guy is celebrating his 31st birthday while he is on the mission world cup. He became captain for the world cup after a great effort and patience. He is the only captain in the history of Pakistan who led the team in T20 world cup, and ICC Cricket World Cup. In two previous games of world cup team has won and as a captain he has done a fairly good job, and in coming games we are expecting much more.

Get well Soon…

November 29th, 2010
Yesterday there have been a big news on TV that put me into the shock first and then made me a little sad too. That was the news of the heart attack that Abida Parveen faced this past weekend. She went through Angioplasty and now she is recovering well. I was sad because there are only few gems we have in Sufi music today, and I do not think we can afford to loose them. She is a real legend as she gave a style of her own to the sufi music and that became her USP.
