An edited version first Published on Express Tribune

It was September 6 three days ago ─ just another day in London, the country I am currently living in. However, in my home country, this date was marked in red on many calendars. Until around a decade ago, Defence Day used to be a public holiday. However, as the wave of ‘enlightenment’ hit the country and we became workaholics, this date on the calendar was replaced with the usual colour.

Social Media Mela to bridge Pakistan – India gaps

July 13th, 2012

One of the biggest features of previous century was the series of World War. A war that has taken countless lives and effected whole globe in every aspect.  The partition of India is said to be one of the effect of second world war. However, where participants of WWII decided to sit together and achieve collective peace and eventually made European Union,  Pakistan and India two newly engraved countries on world map developed a revelry that featured wars, conflicts, and tension.

Past is something that has gone and can not be changed but future can be, somehow this sense has emerged on the both sides of the border and there has been initiatives to take down the tensions, and bridge the gap between the people from both sides who might have different emotions towards the human across the border then what has been projected for so many years.

Siachen Tragedy – Not a Fiction but Reality this time

May 31st, 2012

Guest Post by: Fareeha Farooq

I have read many articles after the incidence of Gyari Avalanche tragedy. I have gone through different approaches; all of them are very well justified. I do not think there is anything left to write about it but I feel there are some Ideas and feelings yet to deliver, more homage to pay and some emotions to make up the already existing truths. Therefore, I am writing this just to make up, not to give any new dimension to the running debate about Gyari and Siachen incidence.

Land Marks of Past – Kos Tower and Milestones of Lahore

March 3rd, 2012

Kos Minar (Tower) Lahore

The Rule of Sher Shah Suri that started in 1540 has always been considered as one of the best rules this land has ever seen in recent history. He remained ruler of India only for five years, but those five years were full of achievements. Jarneli Sarak (Road) also known as GT Road in India is one of his great achievements.  During his rule he worked on infrastructure of territory, three major roads were constructed on his order and collectively these roads are thousands of miles in length.

Departure of Nostalgic Story Teller

Hameed Akhter - The Nostalgic Story Teller

Due to health, problems that I faced in my childhood I was not allowed to play, as I always wanted to so that I do not have breathing issues. Therefore, I adopted two things than and still these two are with me. One is reading and other is writing. As I had nothing to do in my leisure time, that is why I used to read a lot and this factor made me a newspaper reader at a very early stage of my life, and I became familiar with many names. The name of late Hameed Akhter is one of them. Until last year Hameed sb has been part of my daily reading list but ever since I moved to UK and got busy with my studies my reading list changed from newspapers and articles to books and journals on marketing. That is the reason I got the sad news of Hameed sb’s death after 5 days of its happening.

Pakistani Bomb or Pakistani Representative? you make choice

July 30th, 2011

This Post was First Published at Pak Tea House as: “HRK and Media Hype“.

If days can be remembered with the events that take place on that particular day than 27th July of 2011 can be the HRK day. Yes here with HRK I mean Hina Rabbani Khar, the Federal Foreign Minister of Pakistan. Why I feel that way about this day is the result of the observation.

I woke up this morning and what first thing I saw in my twitter timeline was a tweet saying, “I just hope Hina Rabbani Khar return with something more diplomatically tangible than offers for bollywood flicks or Big Boss shows.” As I was not completely awake at that time, it took me some time to recall all the things that could have helped me in understanding the reason behind such tweet.

Security, intelligence, and moral lapse

May 24th, 2011

This Post was first Published at Pak-Times

PNS Mehran, the latest keyword: for glaring headlines about Pakistan in whole national and International media. Another embarrassment and another opportunity for world to say Pakistan is incapable of dealing with terrorists. Whole standoff started with bunch of terrorists apparently attacking PNS Mehran ended up with 17 hours long operation that featured many casualties including 11 navy personals.

Pseudo intellectuals in Pakistani media found to be claiming this as unsuccessful operation. It is true that it took very long time to deal with the four or six terrorists, but it does not prove that it was not a successful operation, PNS Mehran is clear from terrorists now and relief in the air to some extent can be felt.

Rawalpindi Express, You Will Be Missed :(

March 30th, 2011

We have lost at the hands of India our all time rival. Sad, beaten, but still not down, as we know to fight and bounce back. I cannot say much about the match at the moment because whatever I will say at this time will be coated in the deep thick layer of emotions that I am dealing with at this moment. Losing match is indeed sad but the fact remains that it was just a match one match… one match… on day. As Viv. Richards said after 1983 world cup final, “One day is not a whole season”. Therefore, that was one day and surely that was not our day. That is it I cannot say anything else about the match right now. May be tomorrow or day after tomorrow I muster-up my views and emotions in a way that I can write something meaning full.

Kashmir Solidarity Day

February 5th, 2011

(This post was originaly published at Pakistan Times)

It started with a sad incident in 1994, incident that made atmosphere around me quite gloomy. However incident does not have connection with this article. On February 5, 1994 i assumed; being a five years old brain; that holiday being observed was due to incident that occurred in my personal life but as my father told me that was a national holiday and commemorated as Kashmir Solidarity Day. That was the first time when i came to know about this day and the issue of Kashmir; I might have been observing holidays in previous years too but never noticed. Since then started digging more about Kashmir and had enough knowledge about the motives to celebrate this day.

This evening (actually it was night at the place where this incident took place) I news out of jolts came up. Earthquake hit Pakistan, initially it was said to be Karachi and Quetta only but later on, many other places also came up under the list of places that felt the jolts of an earth quack of 7-3 or 7.4 magnitudes. Places like Lahore, Multan, Melsi, Naseerabad, Jafarabad, Khanewal, and many other places. Some of the names I read in the lest were quiet new to me as I never read or heard about them ever before.  As per news, India and Dubai ales felt the taste of this disaster. So far, the media have reported no major losses. While reporting this event express tribune says;
