Land Marks of Past – Kos Tower and Milestones of Lahore

The Rule of Sher Shah Suri that started in 1540 has always been considered as one of the best rules this land has ever seen in recent history. He remained ruler of India only for five years, but those five years were full of achievements. Jarneli Sarak (Road) also known as GT Road in India is one of his great achievements.  During his rule he worked on infrastructure of territory, three major roads were constructed on his order and collectively these roads are thousands of miles in length.

Oscar Goes to Pakistan – Thank You Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy

ذرا سی نم ہو یہ مٹی تو بڑی زرخیز ہے ساکی 

(All I needed to be an opportunity this land is indeed very fertile)…

Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal was so right in penning this thought in his poetry, and whenever the news of any accomplishment comes up out of nowhere this poetic verse comes to my mind. This morning is one of those when I recall these words and feel to be proud for my green passport, in fact more proud as I normally am proud of it. Now when I am writing this after my morning walk there are a few old Welsh fellows (old in age) around me, as usual, but today an unusual proud is accompanying me. I am talking about the Oscar award that goes to Pakistan for the short film “Saving Face”. Pakistan won its first Oscar Award and Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy must be thanked and congratulated for this success. It was first time in many years that a Pakistani film was nominated for Oscars, moreover, a film that was made by a woman.

There was a time when caravans of fragrances used to pass by the streets of Lahore, but today it is a fuss created by direction less crowd. The remaining old cultural identities are dependent on the very few literary and cultural events. Bhaati Gate of old Lahore has always been famous as the centre of literature, knowledge, and art. One can easily experience the glimpse of the real cultural flavour of Lahore and old heritage right after crossing the gate. The twisting narrow streets, weaker structures, and doors with classic designs are the storytellers of the great past. Because of the literary activities of Bhaati gate Hakeem Ahmed Shuja declared it as “Chelsea of Lahore”.

Who is Iqbal? (Geomentary – Iqbal Kaun)

While I was putting my previous blog post here on My Land Pakistan, I was watching documentary about Allama Iqbal. Geomentry has done a good job by coming up with some of the aspects of Allama’s life that we have never known before. I believe it deserve to be part of My Land Pakistan Blog because it is one of a kind documentary about the poet of east and let us know who actually Allama Iqbal is.

Iqbal Wasn’t Selfish But We Are…

It has been a freezing cold day and I was sitting in bank to see my personal banker. A boy came and sat beside me and got busy in filling some forms. “What is the date today?” a question-oriented voice hit my listening senses. I replied its November 9th. Boy suddenly responded, “Hay its Iqbal Day”. I smiled and nodded my head positively. It was pleasant for me to meet someone, who somehow remembers the importance of the date, here thousands of miles away from my land Pakistan.
