There are few days and dates having special status in the calendar for nations. Such dates are called National day in general, Pakistan has three national days and one of them is celebrated on 23rd march it is called Yom e Pakistan (Pakistan Day) and another name of this day is Republic Day. The history of this day is 72 years old in 1940 a resolution in Lahore was passed in the annual meeting of All India Muslim League and that resolution became Pakistan Resolution for the years to come.
On this day, the decision was made to strive for a country and today the same country is looking for same determination to keep this country alive. This country is facing many problems but those in power cannot relate themselves to these issues. For this reason, people of Pakistan are looking for change and they are looking for a new leader with vision to put this country back on track.
On 23rd March, I was in London attending a Pakistan Day Dinner organized by Insaf Student Federation (The Student Wing of PTI) UK Chapter. It was a good gathering of young Pakistanis in UK, the participants came not only from London but also from the other parts of UK, count me in them as I travelled from Wales for it. It was an open for all event that is why many anti-PTI or not so Pro-PTI people to join and share their opinion. Before the official start of the event, there was a debate on why and why not you support PTI.
This was a healthy debate where diehard PTI supports expressed their opinion based on their idealism. On the other hand, the other group expressed their concerns about the party. Many raised questions about the claims of eradicating corruption and other problems within 90 days. Many asked questions about policy, and there were regular questions about capability of Imran Khan to be leader of Islamic Republic of Pakistan in the light of article 63 of the constitution and his personal life.
Being an honest observer along with PTI supporter, I believe it is time now to start answering the questions. Now questions are being raised because now people take PTI seriously. Many PTI supporters have concerns about the party. It is time now when PTI has to make own house strong to move forward.
During the Formal Session, there was Address by Founder of ISF Ahsaan Niazi who talked about the history of ISF and the phases through which this body has gone through. His speech was mainly focussed on the organization building of ISF and the work ISF-UK has done to support the cause.
Usman Ashraf of ISF-UK also made speech talking about how ISF-UK came into being, and how they managed to hold the event that was their first major event in UK. The president ISF-UK Muiz Farid thanked his team for organizing the event and thanked all those who took time out to join them at Pakistan Day Dinner.
Dinner was a good networking session where exchange of contacts was the main feature other than the meal. I also got chance to meet some new and some familiar faces there. There was a Qawali session held after the dinner to provide food to soul after the food for body. Before dinner, the following video was shown that is made by ISF members in Pakistan.
Concisely, it was a good event considering the fact that it was first major “open for all” gathering by ISF-UK that allowed everyone to share their opinion. It will be great if these opinions reach where they are supposed to go and find implementation as well. The one major drawback that I spot at the event was the absence of national anthem; it was supposed to be there because it was an event to celebrate “Pakistan Day”.
