No one in this who is fully satisfied with life, one way or the other life is a test for all of us. Some live to see the successful conclusions and a few have no choice other than embracing death, the opposite of life. It has been said that life is a gift and blessing but what options one have other than death when this blessing itself become an unbearable pain, a pain that one cannot even imagine without going through it. She was one of those who made decision to quit life and start a journey however that journey started from the sixth floor of the building with first stopover at the stoned ground and from there her soul left the painful body to start the new journey with the hope of justice in the next world.
On Sunday 25th March, news of Fakhra Yunus suicide was the hot cake on all forms of media. It is not the first time that a female of Pakistani origin committed a suicide as we have a record of over 85000 registered cases of violence against women including acid attacks in Pakistan. Then what was the reason for this news becoming a headline? The characters involved in this story are definite reason for that because there are many cases yet to be highlighted in the media, but the commercialised media has its own priorities of what to highlight more and when.
What happened to Fakhra 12 years ago was tragic or even more then that considering the pain she gone through after that acid attack and all those corrective surgeries. However, the biggest tragedy was the silence of law on the atrocities and the insensitivity of ruing class of Pakistan. And that became reason for her taking the step that started from the top of sixth floor and ended up with death.
She might have handed over her case to the “highest court of justice” but do we still not need to break silence, and here I mean a constant voice not just media coverage for a few days to earn so called ratings and polishing politics on the dead bodies of victims.
Ironically, at first place we start to judge people not as human but with their profession and their background, many argued that Fakhra was sex worker so that was her fate in this “Men’s world”. She was a human after all with skin and bones that can be burnt and feel severe pain when an acid thrown on it, no matter if it is being thrown by an influential feudal and politician like Bilal Khar or anyone else.
In our society those with influence, of any kind, have all the rights to do anything because the blind law is worst kind of blind in our country moreover it is deaf too when it comes to the misdeeds of those in power. We are taught it as a part of our faith that truth is the ultimate victorious, paradoxically this faith have been shattered again and again not only because of corrupt system but also because of our own morally corrupt attitude. Case of Fakhra Younis along with those 85000 cases and our silence is the biggest evidence for it.
Case of Fakhra is in God’s court now because she was hopeless with the justice system in this world. I have strong belief that she will get justice from there and have stronger belief that each and every one of us will be declared culprit because of our attitude, let alone the consequences ultimate culprit will be facing.
