Pakistan 2012 Review

February 6th, 2013

The year 2012 was no less tumultuous for Pakistan than any other year. Starting from the Supreme Court and former premier Gilani at loggerheads to the return of Tahirul Qadri’s (untimely) arrival on the political scene, Pakistan has seen a healthy share of ups and downs this year. NATO supply routes were resumed, terrorism continued, Metro Bus project was initiated – it is difficult to remember when one event ended and the other began. For the purpose of simplification and to refresh the previous year, Spearhead Research put together a year in review, a compilation of all important news Pakistan saw. [Source]

Politics saved, State… we can decide later

January 28th, 2013

This post first published at “The Pakistani Spectator

Pakistan is a place that always loves to keep a spot in the news and mostly not for good reasons same goes with the Pakistanis either living in it or carrying the name of the country around the globe. I can still remember when my professor at University of West of England asked me “Rai why your country and mine always love to be in the news for not so good reason and put us in a situation where we are not able to explain it”. That professor was from Iran, another troubled place. I was talking about Pakistan and its fixation of being in the news, this trend has nourished us with a mindset that everything should be done with the aim to create a good show. That is why our protests go brutal and violent even if we are raising voice for something right we end up with doing something heavily wrong.

I Have a Dream

May 25th, 2012

I have done Masters in Political Science, export business is my bread and butter. Now I want to be a politician and serve my people. For that, I want to join a certain mainstream political party, a party that is career oriented and open to workers. A party that, with the passage of time and service, gives equal opportunity to workers to reach top post, i.e. Party Chief. I want to be the top man of the biggest political party of Pakistan. While I was planning my journey, the very first question in my mind was, “Is it possible in Pakistan for a person like me to lead a political party?

Pakistani Bomb or Pakistani Representative? you make choice

July 30th, 2011

This Post was First Published at Pak Tea House as: “HRK and Media Hype“.

If days can be remembered with the events that take place on that particular day than 27th July of 2011 can be the HRK day. Yes here with HRK I mean Hina Rabbani Khar, the Federal Foreign Minister of Pakistan. Why I feel that way about this day is the result of the observation.

I woke up this morning and what first thing I saw in my twitter timeline was a tweet saying, “I just hope Hina Rabbani Khar return with something more diplomatically tangible than offers for bollywood flicks or Big Boss shows.” As I was not completely awake at that time, it took me some time to recall all the things that could have helped me in understanding the reason behind such tweet.

Principles Will Be Compromised

Nine Zero, Karachi. the Head Office of MQM

This past Monday evening, on the table full of spicy food and some of the good friends around the atmosphere turned little more spicy because of the political flavour that always jump into the discussions out of nowhere. The reason for this sudden change was yet another political move of MQM, the political party that has a reputation of resigning from the positions after almost every second month. The other two friends who were joining me on the table are from Karachi therefore they wanted to pursue this discussion. One of them came up with the question regarding my opinion on this latest resignation move of MQM as I favoured the resignation of Marvi Memon.

These both are different issues and both have different future perspective that is what I could say, and tried to sum up the discussion right there as talking about MQM resignations is a waste of time because this is a political film that releases after a certain period of time with the same star cast.

Have We Learned Anything?

December 19th, 2010

It was 16th December, the day when the East Pakistan was no more a part of  Pakistan. The world saw a new country emerge on the face of the earth. It’s been 39 years now but the harsh memories are still alive. What actually happened? It still remains a mystery, perhaps it’s been presented in a way that it looks like that. History is one thing that was ruined and spoiled by everyone who got a chance to do so. The case of Dhaka fall isn’t any different.

What happened was bad but the worst thing is that everyone is still busy in blaming and no one wants to accept its fault and surrender. For a moment, even if we let the bygone be bygone, and let’s face the fact that the issues and circumstances aren’t same as they were back then. We witness the same political fight over politics, same number game, and same hollow discussions. The issues of common men were neither in the priority list of the government at time and nor they are now. » Read more: Have We Learned Anything?

Know Who to Blame

October 27th, 2010

Last night when I was going to sleep, I was afraid. No my result was not being announced this morning, I was afraid of a progress report. Still that was not my progress report as an individual however it was the progress report of us all as a nation. I am talking about the report of transparency international. The time I, wakeups the report was out in the news. My fear was gone, as Pakistan ranked 34th most corrupt country of the world according to the report. 34th position that is far less then what I was expecting and afraid of. I was expecting to see the word Pakistan in top 20s. I am not saying this all as if I am against my own country. However I am saying this, all because I am angry the way my country is being run and first of all I am responsible for all this. » Read more: Know Who to Blame

Nation was Sold

October 1st, 2010

Alama Iqbal said a verse on the incident of British raj selling Kashmir to Dogras. That was a Persian poetry so I do not remember the exact words and still looking the whole poem. However, it says that the nation was sold; alas, it was sold on a cheaper rate. That incident took place in 1846 and Iqbal said that verse remembering that disrespect towards the land. Its 2010 now and things are still the same but this time the price was a little high and the people who sold it are still enjoying what they earned. Moreover, people like me are angry on it and speak their anger out on what is going around. What else can we do we have been sold and gave other full authority to others to deal with us the way they like to. Still I feel that the nation has been sold but alas, it has been sold on a cheaper rate. » Read more: Nation was Sold
