PFLC 2013 – There Is A Long Way To Unity In Diversity

February 27th, 2013

Once again, this year I was in Oxford to take part in the Pakistan Future Leaders’ Conference (PFLC 2013) organized by Oxford University Pakistan Society. It was my third trip to my favorite city in England for the same purpose. Just like past, this year’s trip was full of heated debates, networking with some new and some old people, exchange of ideas, and inhaling the chilled air of oxford that had flying snowflakes in it. The Friday afternoon started with the guided tour of the Oxford city and the tour ended at the Oxford Town Hall where opening ceremony took place. Presence of Malala Yusufzai‘s father was another feature of the ceremony and it was somehow better than the eighteen and a half pages long speech by Mr. Gardezi Deputy High Commissioner.

A Commodity that sells best

July 20th, 2012

It will be unjust to say that Ramadan is right in corner because the way time flies now Ramadan will be here in no time. No matter to what extent religious you are, but you somehow do face certain effects of the month. Effects of the month also take over our media outlets and our TV screens, the programs we see are specially coated with its colours. Talking about Ramadan, special TV shows has always been flavour of this month. In past these shows were more inclined towards the cooking shows sharing recipes for the ‘iftar’ meals, live telecast of ‘Tarawih’, and TV shows related to social and charity work, quiz shows about Islamic history, and talks from the scholars to elaborate the benefits of this months and other religious issues. However, that was all during “PTV” era with the bombardment of private TV channels a race of rating begun and it taken over Ramadan transmission too.

Siachen Tragedy – Not a Fiction but Reality this time

May 31st, 2012

Guest Post by: Fareeha Farooq

I have read many articles after the incidence of Gyari Avalanche tragedy. I have gone through different approaches; all of them are very well justified. I do not think there is anything left to write about it but I feel there are some Ideas and feelings yet to deliver, more homage to pay and some emotions to make up the already existing truths. Therefore, I am writing this just to make up, not to give any new dimension to the running debate about Gyari and Siachen incidence.

Embracing death with the hope of justice

April 1st, 2012

No one in this who is fully satisfied with life, one way or the other life is a test for all of us. Some live to see the successful conclusions and a few have no choice other than embracing death, the opposite of life. It has been said that life is a gift and blessing but what options one have other than death when this blessing itself become an unbearable pain, a pain that one cannot even imagine without  going through it. She was one of those who made decision to quit life and start a journey however that journey started from the sixth floor of the building with first stopover at the stoned ground and from there her soul left the painful body to start the new journey with the hope of justice in the next world.

Alim Online – Caught Red Handed Online!

August 20th, 2011

Amir Liaqat

This Post was originally written for Pak-Media Blog

It was Independence Day but something happened in the online space of Pakistan that diverted the online conversation topic from Pakistan to Dr. Aamir Liaqat Husain. I am referring to the video that has been bigger hit than the film Bol itself in Pakistan. Geo reported copyrights over it and was taken down from Youtube but this gave even more boast to it and as a result, the so-called real face of the Online Aalim revealed. There is a debate over the thing, some are serious and critical about it, some are making fun of the poor target, and some were asking ARY to fire him along with spreading the contact number of ARY heads so that message can be sent to them. All those who have not seen this diamond jubilee hit I am sharing it below (sorry for the foul language, but someone else should be far more sorry and ashamed over it):

Stay Divided and See The Fall

July 21st, 2011

Question is simple, “why you people hate MQM?” this question was asked by my Faisalabadi friend from my other friend who is Sindhi. By that time, I realised that politics is going to be the dessert of the dinner that I was trying to finish. The statement of Senior Minister of Sindh Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza has given a discussion topic to many people. And we four friends were enjoying this hot cake at that time.

My friend who is from interior Sindh and spent some years in Karachi unfolded charge sheet against MQM and Urdu speaking community, the final allegation was “they don’t like Sindhi people”. “Keep it simple mate, if you hate them then they have all the rights to dislike you”, I tried to add my notes into the discussion.

Ignoring Silence

July 6th, 2011

Charles De Gaulle said, “Silence is the ultimate weapon of power.” Yes, it indeed is in all the walks of life. As it provides you the way to deal with situation when one can neither accept something nor reject it. Charles De Gaulle once mentioned ten formulas of success in politics and the above statement is one of them. Because of our national habit of checking all the international factors in the local microscope when we consider “Silence and Pakistani Politics” the result is confusing and complex.

Like many other things going around, almost none of them are good, this one is also complex. As our politicians partially follow this rule with complete dedication and on the other hand, the go totally against it, the only thing that creates the difference in both the attitudes is the situation and the issues.

I am Tested are you???

February 21st, 2011

It was getting dark for him, but it was not evening or night either. Nevertheless, the darkness was increasing with every single passing moment. He was unaware of what is going on may be there was some pain inside him. The time was over now the darkness covered everything and he was free from the pain now. The man in white lab coat standing near him shook his head and said, “I am sorry, he is no more with us”. Everyone started to cry and I only knew that my friend has died; he is no more with us to complete our cricket team, and for the computation for the results in exams. He died because of cancer, after some days I came to know about his cancer. This is not the story of my friend only every year almost 12 million falls prey of cancer, and there is a significant number of Pakistanis are there.

Discrimination the Basic Rout

December 2nd, 2010

This past month I remain busy in reviewing video games. This has been a boring experience, but I noticed many things out of this experience. One thing that I noticed is discrimination, yes the discrimination between the genders with regards to video games. It sounds strange, but the fact is that  discrimination is something that I found everywhere. Things are almost the same here where I am living now days when it comes to gender discrimination.
