Olympics Hockey – Pakistan Vs RSA Review

August 6th, 2012

After completely horrible performance in the first biggest match of the tournament where Team GB totally devastated, already weaker, defence of Team Pakistan and successfully handled, relatively stronger, mid field to end the game with a 4 goals to one. Today team Pakistan got into another nerve testing and a classic hockey match that could put any one on the edge of the seat. A match where total 9 goals scored and there were total 30 attacks on the goal posts from the both sides. However, in the end Waseem Ahmed, and Captain Sohail Abbas snatched the victory from South African team in last ten minutes of the match.

That was indeed the best match of this whole tournament so far and resulted in the favour green shirts but this victory shall not over shadow the shortcomings that we have seen again in this match.

Olympics Hockey – Pakistan Vs Argentine Review

August 2nd, 2012

Sohail Abbas After Scoring Goal

After drawing the match against Spain and some attentions of Pakistani viewers green shirts managed time win their second match in Olympics against Argentine by two goals. This has definitely given hope and some happiness to the deprived nation and Pakistani hockey fans though the ranked 9 team Argentine was slightly weaker as compared to green shirts. With all this praise green shirts have collected the have huge responsibility to meet during the matches against Australia and Great Britain. Team Pakistan played quite an attacking hockey yesterday and the strategy of mid field filled with more players work by giving backup support to the forward strikers. Though team missed many chances in second half where the factor of ‘lazy legs’ was seen especially from the older members of the team. During the match defence was better and complimented the attack, something that was missing against Spain.

From Pakistan this year 21 athletes have traveled to London to take part in four different sports. The biggest part of this squad is team taking part in Men’s Hockey. Realistically speaking there are no hopes attached to the squad to get feel of victory stand, it has been 20 years now that Pakistan has seen what it is like an Olympic medal when last time it won Bronze medal in Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

Media diversion from Spot Fixing in IPL to Shahrukh Khan

May 18th, 2012

Shots went out of the park, wickets flew in the air and entertainment to the fullest, I’m talking about IPL that is Indian Premier League. It started with a bang with its first season when Lalit Modi was in charge. He really did bring a creative idea to the table claiming respect from all over the world. IPL is a franchise which allows cricket players from all over the world to play with their fellow cricketers from different countries combined in a team.  I had followed the first season very closely since it featured our Pakistani players. I had supported Rajasthan Royals from the beginning and they had won.

Lala Vs Overseas Punjab XI

March 6th, 2011

Apparently, it was Pakistan Vs Canada, but interestingly it ended up in Lala, I mean our very own Shahid Khan Afridi, taking on overseas Punjab XI. As there was no proper Canadian in team Canada, similarly it was like there is no one else in the field from Pakistan as Mr Boom Boom showed back to pavilion to 6 Canadian, ooops sorry Overseas Punjabi batsmen. He took five wickets and hunted one with devastating throw ended up in a run out. Sadly, I do not have video of run out but what I have is interesting enough. In the video see how leg spins, flipper, googly and not to forget the lala’s speciality shooter, made fall of five men possible.

Let the Lion Lead the Team

January 26th, 2011

Initially I decided to write about the team announced for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. Name it my laziness or any other thing I never been able to write about it, anyhow many other blogger fellows have done this job already, but there was one thing that was disturbing for me and with every single passing day it started to get more and more crucial? I guess it has been for the first time in Pakistani cricket that the team for the biggest event of the game has been announced and the leader of the team yet to be announced. Lobbying, grouping, double-crossing, has become part of the game for last two decades almost. After match-fixing, the course of grouping has destroyed cricket in Pakistan the most. We can see the same thing now. In an interview ex captain, Inzmam-ul-Haq said that team is divided in two parts and they are not going to play world cup they will show that who is in what group.

Zulu’s Strange Journey

November 8th, 2010

Zulqarnain Haider the person who played key role in last game to make Pakistan win and he was the hero of the moment that day. The same Zulqarnain, I gave him name – Zulu, was missing today and as per his fb status, he is doing all this as a result of life threat he received. Apparently, it is a journey from UAE to UK but from the corner of the book, I am looking at whole story it is not. It is a journey that started from UK and now has reached to the point where the leading character of the story is back in England. No idea where this story is going take him now, if this all is going to be a new turn in his career or his career is over. Time will decide all this, but still there are many questions about what happened this morning.
