The Sales Manager’s Job

November 12th, 2012

Guest post by ASRAR AHMAD QURESHI

The job of sales manager calls for special talents in managing large numbers of people spread over a wide geographic area and working with little or no day-to-day supervision. More than in most managerial jobs, the sales manager must be a leader, motivator, and expert communicator. Managers of inside functions, such as production, accounting, and advertising, can supervise their people directly on a person-to-person basis. Sales managers, on the other hand, must communicate by phone and in writing, with only occasional face-to-face contact.

Sales & marketing of national and multinational companies in Pakistan

May 15th, 2012

Guest post by ASRAR AHMAD QURESHI

Sales and marketing in Pakistan is entirely different from rest of the world. Before launching any product, mostly MNC launch their product with big bang. They provide complete media back up such as electronic media, print media, POS material, Above The Line & Below The Line activities. On the other side, the national companies dont go to that extent. They would launch the product by providing POS material and little bit media back up(elctronic and print). There is cut throat competition in the market, but mostly all the companies in Pakistan believe in pressure selling. They dont create pull but always  push strategy. The field force is always under pressure, because they are given unrealistic targets. In order to achieve the targets and to get the incentive from the company, they always pressurise the distributor to place the order according to the target. The distributor reluctantly places the order and just to exhaust the stocks, he allows extra commission to the whole salers. The impact of unjustified passing commission results in very low ROI (return on investment) Due this strata companies are facing problems in getting professional distributors, and what to talk about national companies.

Jazz Ramadan Ad – Is It Against Our Moral Values?

September 7th, 2011

This Post was origionally written for Pak-Media Blog

Advertising is one of the disciplines in marketing and media that has grown in Pakistan over the years, from the era of radio and print to the era of visual ads that has also grown to the higher levels by today. Old and serious ads today make us laugh because they seems to be outdated but still there are many that can be named and followed as classic. AsPakistanis culturally, an enriched country therefore in our ads flavour of culture used to be there. I am using the “used to be” part with full responsibility because that aspect of our advertising is dying. Anyhow, that is a separate debate. Coming back to the topic, advertisements should be created with respect to the time of the year it will be released in.

Olpers and Ramadan

August 28th, 2010

Olpers is a brand that has made its place since 2005. I still remember that sound of milk being poured in a pot to make “doodh pati“. I am not a tea person at all but still that ad had created a buzz on me that I can recall. The reason for writing this post and sharing almost 5 year old memories is the ad that I just saw, once again, on the facebook page of Olpers. Why fb page? Why not on tv that might be the question of the moment. So the simple answer is that I do not trust the length of the ad that been played on the TV. Olpers is one of the few brands that successfully relates itself to Ramadan in its ad rather than another brand of same product, which is trying to claim the title of thickest of them all for last 15 years almost. Every Ramadan I wait for the advertisement of Olpers. The reason for this anticipation is the flavor of family values and Ramadan that enriched the charm of the advertisement.
