“I just finished editing 175 Display Pictures request … Now taking a break .. !!” saw this status update of Talal Masood almost a week ago. Talal Masood is not a professional photographer or a professional photo editor he is a man who is always on a mission especially during august. Talal Masood along with Farhan Masood (there sir name is just a co incidents they are not real brothers) started a campaign to make whole social media green to celebrate independence day in 2009 – GO GREEN PAKISTAN.
This year Go Green Pakistan campaign is celebrating third year of success. The simple concept of go green campaign was to change the display pictures on social media (mostly on facebook, and twitter) with a green background or a background having flag of Pakistan. A simple idea and vision of futurologist made it instant hit and in 2009 the whole facebook and twitter time line turned green with almost every single display picture having “green” in it. By the time this post is being written the total number of pictures that has been “green” is more then 175000.
Go Green is a slogan of many environment based campaigns going on around the globe. The concept behind Pakistani social media go green campaign is also to revive and protect the environment but here it is about Mental environment. Having a DP with the flag does not make one a patriot just like that it is just an attempt to instigate a gradual process where one starts to realize the importance of the flag and then it turns out to be the passionate display of that patriotism then just another DP. Explaining this founder of campaign Farhan Masood says, “The concept is to bring patriotism back in the people, to unite their roots and keep the hope alive which is the driving force for any successful nation.”
“There has been increasingly negative attitude which is giving birth to the hopelessness among the Pakistanis and the the law and order situation has added more poison to that attitude. Such factors has been the inspiration behind the campaign”, Says Talal Masood. He further said, “in such situation either you can sit quietly and witness things getting worst or you can play your role in your own capacity to contribute towards positive change”.
There are many silent warriors in this country who are fighting against the negativity and contributing to the society with positivity and inspiring many. People like Talal Masood and Farhan Masood must be appreciated for the work they are doing just out of sincerity and not wanting anything in return. With the time this campaign need more support because one small step to positivity can do wonders and this campaign and the outcome has showed that.
